Cherry Hill Marketplace

Like many urban communities, Cherry Hill has few options for informal or organized social activities. The Cherry Hill Marketplace converts a vacant retail space to become a flexible and inviting “Third Place” for the Cherry Hill Community. Working with Catholic Charities, the design team developed a program that features adaptive spaces that can accommodate a variety of activities. At the front of the space is a cafe that invites residents to casually meet or rest with their favorite beverage. The retail space fronts a larger space that is separated with moveable partitions. The open space is a multi-use environment that can house small meetings or large gatherings. Around its perimeter are a collection of features including a lounge area and convertible pop-up stalls that open or collapse as needed. The stalls would be used by local small businesses to display and present products during curated events. Meanwhile, the commercial kitchen can be used by food and beverage small businesses or for catering large events at the Marketplace. The flexible venue can hold a variety of activities, ensuring regular use by a wide range of groups and organizations. As a space open and accessible for everyone, the Marketplace serves as an anchor for the community strengthening bonds by bringing people together.
